Street Scene

Hailed by critics as the first truly "American Opera", and winner of the very first Tony Award for Best Original Score (1947), Street Scene mixes comedy, romance, and tragedy within a single New York City tenement. The score features jazz, Broadway show-stoppers, and full-throated verismo lyricism. Kurt Weill's Street Scene is considered the first real successor of the Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, but it actually garnered more favorable reviews and enjoyed a longer Broadway run!
The orchestra for this production is provided by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
Running Time: 2 hours 35 minutes (including intermission)
Sung in English with English Supertitles
